Information systems are important to all facets of the business world. The information systems field includes people who design and build systems, people who use those systems, and people responsible for managing those systems. The demand for traditional staff such as programmers, business analysts, systems analysts, and designers is significant.
Benefits of studying information systems at DSU
Our IS degree is based on a core 30 credits which includes an internship and/or undergraduate research. Then, you’ll choose a specialization in one of three areas: business analysis, software development, and project management. You can learn more about IS specializations on our course requirements page.
DSU is also home to the Center of Excellence in Computer Information Systems which is an honors program that prepares students to take the lead in the development and application of information technology tools in business, industry, government and education. And even as an IS undergraduate, you'll be able to take part in real research opportunities. At DSU, you can also make connections and practice your skills in an internship at leading businesses in the state. Due to the high demand for DSU grads, most students find their first job after graduation without ever leaving campus.
IS technologies deal with five main components: hardware, software, data, procedures, and people. At DSU, you will become familiar with technologies that gather, store, and process data into information, and the applications and networks that distribute this information. You'll learn programming languages, systems development software, project management software, and database development and management tools.
Students in this program may be eligible for the Fast Track program. Contact the Dean of the College of Business and Information Systems for more information.
