Placed to succeed
Using a combination of placement scores (ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER or COMPASS), high school GPA, and transfer coursework, DSU places students in the entry-level courses that best meet their knowledge and skills.
Additionally, DSU offers ACCUPLACER placement testing. It is available to students for the following reasons:
No current placement scores
Students without placement scores (ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER or COMPASS) from within the last 5 years are required to complete placement testing before being allowed to register.
Direct placement into MATH 123 - Calculus
Students interested in being placed directly into MATH 123 must complete the ACCUPLACER placement exam. For students with an ACT math score less than 25, an SAT math score less than 570, or a Math Index lower than 1300 this is considered a challenge exam.
Challenging initial placement
Students may challenge their initial course placement through a challenge placement test. A challenge may be attempted only once per subject. The challenge exam fee is $20.00.
Final placement is determined by the highest result.
Let your experiences work for you
Through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams, students have the opportunity to earn credit in over 40 courses, including required general education courses like ENGL 101 and MATH 114.

For courses that have no equivalent CLEP examination, students may petition to challenge college coursework via a departmental credit-by-examination.
DSU is a Test Center for the National ACT Exam. Information regarding test dates, locations, and registration can be found on the ACT website.
DSU is a Test Center for the National PRAXIS Exam. Information regarding test dates, locations, and registration can be found on the PRAXIS website.
Certain DSU courses may require proctoring such as the use of an internet browser that locks down the testing environment and may require a webcam in order to complete exams/quizzes. Proctoring (via online or face-to-face methods), essentially monitors a student as an exam is being taken and ensures that academic integrity is maintained. Please make sure to check the course syllabus or D2L regarding the specific requirements for proctoring of exams as they may vary by course/faculty. Students will be responsible for any proctoring expenses, if applicable.
