College of Business and Information Systems
Faculty and staff members of the DSU Health Information Management (HIM) department established this award in 2002. The scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated financial need who is in the two-year or four-year HIM program.
Provided by East River Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. since 1990, this scholarship honors Virgil Hanlon, general manager of East River from its founding in 1949 until his death in 1969. Hanlon had tremendous influence in the electric power field during his thirty years working with rural electric cooperatives. This award is given to a senior majoring in business education, business administration, or information systems, who is a resident of the geographic area served by the cooperative.
Established in 1989, the South Dakota Health Information Management Association (SDHIMA) sponsors these awards for deserving health information undergraduate and graduate students who are also members of the SDHIMA.
David Wiedrich graduated from Dakota State University in 2007 with degree in Business Finance. David is currently employed with the Air Guard. Eric DeKam graduated from Dakota State University in 2012 with a degree in Professional Accountancy. Eric is currently employed at Secure Banking Solutions as an Accountant.
