DSU marketing students are more than great marketers, they're also leaders. Our marketing major (offered on campus and online) combines the creative aspects of marketing with best practices in analytics and digital marketing. In your studies, you will develop marketing plans and promotional campaigns for actual businesses, improve your selling skills, conduct marketing research and collaborate with others on a variety of projects.
We integrate existing and new technologies into our traditional marketing coursework. You’ll be prepared for a career that embraces the latest marketing techniques and innovations, including Big Data, Digital Marketing, and of course, Social Media. Whether it’s planning and implementing a marketing or promotional campaign, conducting analytical Marketing research, or creating a sales approach; you’ll learn the best-practices of Marketing – infused with a good dose of innovation.

Our Marketing classes are known for their hands-on approach. Most classes have about 20 students per class and professors are often available outside of class. DSU’s marketing professors have a wealth of industry experience in product management and international marketing, in addition to their academic work on emerging technologies and e-commerce.
Local business case studies are included in each marketing course and provide hands-on exposure to real-time marketing issues. Internships are also encouraged, and we’ll help you find them. Our students have completed internships with sports teams, arts organizations, and major technical corporations.
Outside of class, you can take part in student activities and clubs like Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Business Club and seminars with local marketing associations such as SME and SDAF. Scholarships and grants are also available for marketing students.

- Creation and use of webinars for promotional purposes
- Video conferencing for sales
- Use of social media across multiple platforms for promotional and customer relationship management purposes
- Use of mobile technologies in marketing
- Online presence and branding
In addition, you’ll learn back-office technologies that allow for efficient marketing like:
- Customer relationship management (CRM) software
- Project management applications
- Analytical software, including Google Analytics
- Database management and evaluation tools
- RFID technologies in retail management
- Website evaluation tools
Our bachelor of business administration program is one of the few in South Dakota accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This means that in addition to meeting all evaluation criteria and curriculum standards, DSU is also involved in the creation of innovative programs.
