Major:

Why did you choose DSU? I was recruited to run track and play basketball.  Once I learned more about the school, I was happy to be going to a smaller, more personal campus and to be learning more about using computers in my business major (this was back in the 80’s – insert old person joke here -  so technology in academics was a relatively new concept).

Favorite DSU experience? Getting to know my zoology professor.  He was a basketball fan (I think he came to virtually every home game).  He was very helpful and flexible with assignments when I had to miss class for travel to away games.

Why did you choose DSU? I chose DSU because I wanted to be close to home and I was looking for a school where I wouldn’t get lost in the crowd and feel like I was valued. I also couldn’t beat the value/cost of a DSU education anywhere else.

College was an amazing experience and was some of the best years of my life so far.

Why did you choose DSU?
At the time I was looking at what college best fit me, DSU was just getting ready to make the transition to where every student on campus would receive a tablet computer with the cost of education. Other schools I had looked at were not anywhere close on the technology side that DSU was going to offer. I also wanted to run track in college, and through DSU I was going to be able to do so. The small classes and campus really fit well with me. I also wanted a school that I was going to be able to change majors if needed and not have to transfer to another university. DSU offered both majors I was interested in; Exercise Science & Computer Graphic Design.

Favorite DSU experience?
My favorite DSU experience was the fact that my best friend that I met in college and I actually met for the first time at a DSU registration day and later ended up being roommates the last 3 years of school.

Five Interesting Things About Me:

  • My wife’s name is Leslie, step-son Treyton, and a daughter Emma.
  • I have been deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
  • I have been a member of the SD Army National Guard for 10 years.
  • I am a 2 time High School State Champion in the 4x200m Relay.
  • I enjoy traveling (overseas trips: 3 personal, 2 military)

Why did you choose DSU? I decided to come to DSU about five weeks before classes started after planning on going out of state. I chose DSU because the cost was way more affordable than other places I had looked at, and they had the business program with a bit of technology.

Favorite DSU experience? My favorite part of my college experience at DSU was the opportunities I had to get involved with the university and the town! Madison does a great job of welcoming in students as a part of their community.

Five Interesting Things About Me:

  • I’m a sucker for garlic breadsticks no matter where they’re from.

What’s so amazing about DSU? The people. The programs. The experience. That might sound a little cliché, but DSU offers much of what I wanted as an undergraduate and graduate student. Personal attention, friendliness, educational investment from faculty and staff – all on a technology driven campus.

Favorite DSU experience? Talking with prospective students and counselors about what we have to offer. Even if DSU isn’t the right fit for you, I love to encourage each student to focus on academics, their potential career path, and where they’ll feel most comfortable. My tours and talks tend to go a little long because an education at DSU goes beyond admissions. I try to build a relationship with each incoming student.

Five Interesting Things About Me:

  • I married my high school sweetheart, Kelsey. We both graduated from Madison High School.
  • I’m driven by creativity. Writing, music, art. I love it.
  • I was born on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, CA
  • I attempt to play golf, jog, and play table tennis.
  • I enjoy camping and hiking.

What’s so amazing about DSU?

I love DSU’s friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s hard to consider my position a job when it was so easy to connect with my admissions team and build relationships with faculty and staff.  There are so many committed and forward-thinking people here at DSU who’s collective goal is to help students succeed.  It’s been a privilege to be able to see and be apart of the amazing things happening at DSU!

My favorite DSU experience has been the ability to build relationships with students not only on campus, but also in the schools I serve.  Being able to meet students and talk about what DSU has to offer them has been great.

What’s so amazing about DSU? The student/faculty ratio here at DSU gives students a chance to work hands-on with professors in the subjects that matter most to them, which is something I always appreciated as a student. There are so many awesome projects and things growing on campus, it’s hard not to get excited!

Five Interesting Things About Me:

  • I’m an avid reader and audiobook listener.
  • I’m simultaneously fascinated and horrified by true crime shows and podcasts. I can’t get enough, but they definitely keep me up at night.
  • I enjoy yoga. Maybe I’ll be good at it someday!
  • I love baseball, but I’m not good at keeping up with it. Go Cubs!
  • Breakfast food reigns supreme in my world.
