Jeff Dittman

Biography

Jeff Dittman is the Athletic Director for Dakota State University. Jeff began his teaching and coaching career in North Dakota in 1980 and spent three years as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball program at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock. He also worked at DSU for 17 years, before taking a coaching position at Hastings College. After four years there, he returned to DSU and is in his eighth year here. Jeff holds 35 years’ experience of working in college athletics at NCAA DI and NAIA schools. He has been named Conference Coach of the Year three times and the SD College Coach of the Year twice. In 2018, Jeff gave up coaching duties to concentrate on the role of fundraising for the new Trojans Unite - Athletic Complex campaign.

Biography

Nick Huntimer is the Sports Information Director at Dakota State. Nick graduated from DSU in 2005 and, prior to graduation, was a work-study student in the Admissions office, then transferred to the athletics department. Since graduation, Nick has worked as the DSU Sports Information Director and is also the Sports Information Director for our conference in the North Star Athletic Association conference. During the 2014-2015 academic year, Nick was selected as the first Director of the Year for the North Star Athletic Association. He is a member of the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is on the committee member of the CoSIDA Diversity and Inclusion. Nick is also a basketball and volleyball official for the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA). He is currently the President-Elect on the South Dakota Volleyball Board of Officials Association (SDVBOA) and will President for the next two years.

Derrion Hardie

Head Baseball Coach

Biography

Derrion Hardie is the Head Baseball Coach for Dakota State. Hardie is a native of Aberdeen, SD and attended school at the University of Sioux Falls (USF). Prior coming to Dakota State, Derrion was the head baseball coach at Ecclesia College in Arkansas, where he was hired to lead the development of the baseball program that began play in 2013. He pioneered the Royals to six consecutive winning seasons and post-season berths. He successfully executed a five-year vision plan to qualify for the World Series. Derrion has spent 10 years as a highly successful high school head baseball coach in Minnesota and South Dakota. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Lisa, and their three children.

Melanie Hiller

Biography

Melanie Hiller is the Event Coordinator and Senior Secretary for the athletics department. Previous to DSU, she was the Event Coordinator at Scheels and owner of Verde Vines N Stones. She was also a Guest Service Coordinator at Grand Targhee Resort. Melanie has 15 plus years of coordinating events, executing events, managing large groups, managing and planning athletic events, public relations, and marketing.

Gary Garner

Gary Garner

Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Biography

Gary Garner is the Men’s Head Basketball Coach for DSU. Prior to coming to Dakota State, he served as the assistant coach for Iowa Energy, a team with the NBA Development League, for two seasons (2007-2009). He also served as head basketball coach at Southeast Missouri State University from 1997-2006 and, from 1991-1997, he led the men's team at Fort Hays State University. In 2011, Gary was inducted in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Fame for his successful coaching era at Fort Hays State University. He and his wife, Barb, currently reside in Madison.

David Moe

Head Women’s Basketball Coach

Biography

David Moe is the Women’s Head Basketball Coach for Dakota State. David came to DSU from Mayville State, where he was the assistant women’s basketball coach for ten years. He is originally from Barnesville, MN, and graduated from Mayville State in 2009, with a bachelor of science in Exercise Science and Sports Management. Along with coaching at Mayville State, he was also an Instructor in the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation division. David received his master of science in Recreation and Sports Sciences from Ohio University in 2015. He and his wife, Sheena, have three daughters.

Amy Veenhof

Head Volleyball Coach

Biography

Amy Veenhof is the Head Volleyball Coach at DSU. Prior to DSU, Amy coached at Si Tanka-Huron University for one season, before taking a job at Northern State University (NSU). She also served as the head coach of the Northeast South Dakota (NESD) Junior Olympic volleyball club in Aberdeen for four years. She currently holds the all-time wins total as the head coach in Trojan Volleyball program history. Amy is a native of Henderson, MN. She earned her associate degree from Bethany Lutheran College, her bachelor’s degree from Si Tanka University, and her master’s degree from Northern State University. Amy and her husband, Casey, have three sons.

Andy Roland

Esports Head Coach

Biography

Andy Rowland is the Esports Head Coach at DSU. He is the first-ever head coach for the Esports athletic program. Rowland began his collegiate career at Roosevelt University in Chicago, on a soccer scholarship, before transferring to Texas Christian University (TCU), to begin his Esports journey. Before Andrew, TCU did not have an Esports organization on campus. He campaigned for an organization and gathered enough interest to charter TCU Esports under his direction. In TCU’s first year, Andy’s varsity League of Legends team placed third in the American Collegiate Esports League (ACEL). He graduated from TCU in December of 2018, with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science. Andy has experience managing teams in the Challenger, Masters, and Grandmasters tiers of League of Legends. He also has connections to some of today’s top streamers and Esports athletes, which will help develop skills and opportunities for DSU students.

Rachel Fricke

Rachel Fricke

Head Softball Coach

Biography

Rachel Fricke is the Head Softball Coach at DSU. Rachel was a four-year softball letter winner at NCAA Division I University of South Dakota. While USD, she played in 183 career games, starting in 179 games as a catcher or designated player. She posted a .972 career fielding percentage at USD. Rachel graduated from USD with a bachelor's degree in recreation management with a health and coaching minor in 2010. She is entering her first year as the head softball coach but was the assistant coach for the last six seasons. During her time at Dakota State, she has assisted in coaching three All-Region players, 17 North Star Athletic Association All-Conference selections, seven Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, 27 NSAA Scholar-Athletes and one NAIA Scholar Team. She currently resides in Madison.

Biography

Josh Anderson is the Head Football Coach and Instructor at DSU. Josh is a native of Madison, SD and played tight end for the Trojans from 1994-1995 and was an All-Conference South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) player. In 1996, Josh transferred to North Dakota State University (NDSU) and graduated from NDSU with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Previous to his position at DSU, he was the Head Football Coach and a teacher at Payson High School in Payson, AZ. He holds 21 years of coaching experience, with six of them at the high school level, 15 at the collegiate level, and 11 as the DSU Head Football Coach. Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.

Stephan Vassaloti is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and an Instructor at DSU. Prior to DSU, he was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Marshalltown High School and the Peak Performance Director at SportsPlus Physical Therapy in Marshalltown, IA. Stephan’s has also been a Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant at the University of Dubuque and a Strength and Conditioning Coach for men’s basketball at the University of Northern Iowa.

Biography

Anthony Drealan is the Head Cross Country/Track and Field Coach/Instructor in the College of Education at DSU. Drealan is originally from Fulda, Minn. and graduated in May 2011 from Dakota State University, with a degree in business education. He also holds a master’s in Human Performance and Physical Education from Adams State. While at DSU, Drealan competed for the Trojan cross country and track teams. Drealan holds numerous school records, including the indoor and outdoor Distance Medley Relay (DMR).

Carla Sudenga

Biography

Carla Sudenga is the Senior Secretary in the Athletics department and has been at DSU for 35 years; with most of those years being in the Athletics Department. Previous to DSU, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Wells-Fargo, in Marshall, MN. Carla enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, cheering them on at events, gardening, traveling, cooking and baking. During the summer, she runs the concession stands at Baughman Park and the Field of Dreams for Interlake’s Youth Softball and for Madison Youth Baseball. She also enjoys cheering on the DSU teams.
