Online Learning Tips

To help minimize the spread of #Covid19, DSU is moving to online courses for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. To support students during this time, we'd like to share some online learning tips from our online learning experts at Dakota State.

Five simple tips to study online and at home

Time management

  • Manage your time carefully and make sure you take time to solely focus on your studies, in a quiet place. If your kids are home because of school closures, provide them with crafts, puzzles, or educational online activities

Set a daily schedule and follow it

  • Create and follow a daily schedule. Structure in online learning is key, so creating a visible schedule will help you keep track of your day to day learning and ensure you’re dedicating time to your education

Check-in with your instructor, often

  • Check-in with your instructor, often, and take note of their “online hours.” Keeping track of online homework can be a challenge, but noting when your instructors are available or sending them a quick email to check-in can help you organize homework and ensure you don’t miss any assignments, quizzes, or tests

Contact the Help Desk

  • If you are having struggles with IT issues, contact the online DSU helpdesk immediately. Be sure to let your instructor know of your issues and that you have reported it. Please use the link below to request support

Practice self-care

  • Online classes, kids, and a busy lifestyle can be overwhelming, so don’t forget to practice self-care. If you're getting overwhelmed, go for a walk, practice yoga, or take a break.
