Forster to intern with FDIC
April 28, 2023
Justice Forster will spend 10 weeks of summer 2023 as an intern for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as part of the Financial Management Scholars Program.
A Business Administration major with a finance specialization and a minor in digital accounting, Forster started taking dual credits through DSU in the fall of 2019. He is from Howard, S.D.
“The rapport I had already developed with DSU was very influential during my college search, which, coupled with the technological emphasis and integration into coursework that extends beyond cyber and into business courses, made my decision much easier,” Forster said.
He first developed an interest in stocks and cryptocurrencies around the age of 12. This interest led to his decision to earn a finance specialization. Dr. Yenling Chang helped reinforce his decision to enter the program.
“Dr. Chang is a credit to the College of Business & Information Systems and DSU as a whole, and I couldn’t ask for a better professor and advisor in my field of study,” he said.
Beyond the classroom, Forster has been involved in various activities since he started on campus at DSU in 2021. He participates in the CEO Club, FBLA Club, and Photography Club. In August 2022, he took on the position of President of the CEO Club, which gave him experience with leadership and interpersonal skills.
During the fall 2022 DSU Career and Internship Fair, Forster met with the FDIC, speaking with a bank examiner and financial institution specialist from the Sioux Falls field office. He applied and was offered an internship.
“The internship is a hands-on learning experience with the Division of Risk Management Supervision,” he explained. “This will allow me to work on teams to examine a bank’s financial condition, risk management program, and internal control structure, as well as assess compliance with safety and soundness rules and regulations.”
Forster will likely assist with several on-site bank examinations during his internship, providing crucial experience applicable to the financial services industry.
The internship will help Forster expand his skills and abilities and prepare him for a variety of career paths.
“I hope to be able to utilize my education and experience at DSU in a way conducive to making a positive difference in my career,” he said.
Forster enjoys working with numbers and is looking forward to finding excitement in finance after graduation.
“The technological advantage that is provided to DSU students over the course of their education gives them a significant competitive edge when entering the workforce,” he said.
