October 7, 2025
Dakota State University (DSU) President José-Marie Griffiths has joined the South Dakota Board of Regents in announcing a bold leadership succession plan designed to advance DSU’s mission, goals, and strategic engagement while ensuring continuity of evolving programs, services, and support. Central to this plan is the creation of a new executive role: DSU Chancellor.
Once a new president takes office, Dr. Griffiths will immediately assume a new role as DSU Chancellor. This new role is designed to leverage the experience, vision, and trusted leadership of Dr. Griffiths to strengthen and expand the University’s relationships with key external stakeholders, including industry leaders, government agencies, research institutions, and philanthropic organizations. This role supports DSU’s mission to foster economic development, innovation, and public impact by enhancing its profile, partnerships, and presence in local, regional, and national spheres.
Board of Regents President Tim Rave praised Griffiths’ leadership and lasting contributions to the University and the state. “President Griffiths has transformed Dakota State University into a nationally respected leader in cyber education and research,” Rave said. “Her vision created opportunities for students, strengthened South Dakota’s workforce, and elevated the state’s role on the global cyber stage. We are grateful for her years of service and look forward to her continued involvement in advancing DSU’s mission.”
President Griffiths added, “I am inspired to continue advancing DSU’s recognition as a cyber powerhouse. This succession plan ensures DSU’s long-term health and positions us for national leadership. The creation of the Chancellor position ensures that our University can continue to build upon its successes, while expanding its partnerships and visibility in ways that will benefit our students, faculty, and the state of South Dakota for years to come.”
