CybHER to host Girl Scout Badge Day

January 29, 2026

DSU’s CybHER® program will host a Girl Scouts Badge Day on Saturday, February 7 in The Beacom Institute of Technology.

CybHER has been partnering with Girl Scouts for several years, offering cybersecurity-related badges each year.

This year, CybHER leaders will host sessions with activities that can earn the Girl Scouts two badges, Coding for Good 1 and Coding for Good 3, said Kanthi Narukonda, director of the CybHER Institute. Narukonda manages a team of 10 undergraduate students who serve as CybHER leaders.

Unique outreach events, like those with Girl Scouts, also serve as a learning opportunity for CybHER students to practice leadership, communication, and teaching skills. It also gives the students the chance to serve as role models and mentors, a key part of CybHER’s mission, according to Narukonda.

“These events highlight the power of community partnerships in expanding access to technology education,” she said. “By working with organizations like Girl Scouts and Scouting America, CybHER helps create early, positive experiences with coding and cybersecurity while inspiring the next generation of problem solvers and leaders.”

The hands-on coding activities are designed for students in kindergarten through high school.  “These sessions focus on using coding as a tool to help others, combining age-appropriate coding activities with creativity and community impact,” she said.

Approximately 50 to 65 Girl Scouts will join CybHER students to code robots and earn badges from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 7.
