Get ready for Dakota State's inaugural DSU Data Competition sponsored by CAPITAL Services! This event is aimed at allowing collegiate teams to evaluate big data sets. Teams will problem-solve and make data forecasts for real-world business needs.  

This competition will take place during a one-month period. Teams will receive the problem statement and data sets at the beginning and submit their final analysis and conclusions for a final presentation on the competition day. 

Interested candidates and teams should have at least an introductory course in statistics completed prior to the start of the competition and should also be prepared to summarize correlations and conclusions from large data sets. 





  1. Teams are comprised of 3-5 students and 1 advisor.
  2. 10 teams per university can participate.
  3. 50 total teams will be able to participate. 
  4. Undergraduate and graduate level students are encouraged to participate.
  5. Finalists will be required to attend the final event in Madison, SD in March 2023.


Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams in phase 2 of the competition

1st Place - $2,500
2nd Place  - $1,500
3rd Place - $1,000


  • November 1: Registration opens
  • January 20:  Registrations must be submitted before 5 PM CST
  • January 25: Data provided to teams
  • February 22:  Results submission is due by 5 PM CST
  • March 6: Top 5 teams will be announced (Teams must accept or decline attendance by March 8th)
  • March 22:  Event Day and presentations
