Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

DSU College of Education receives Department of Labor grant

January 23, 2023

Dakota State University’s College of Education is one of four organizations receiving a grant to develop apprenticeship programs for high school students from the South Dakota Department of Labor.

The grant proposal was a collaborative effort by DSU’s College of Education team, said College of Education Dean Dr. David De Jong.

The award of $35,500 will help fund the online teacher apprenticeship program for high school students.

According to De Jong, it’s the innovative culture within the College of Education at DSU that helped secure this grant.

“Our team truly believes that there is no better place to recruit future teachers than our current classrooms in South Dakota,” De Jong said.

Dakota State was one of four organizations to receive grants to develop apprenticeship programs for high school students. The Harrisburg School District and Bear Butte Gardens will house agriculture apprenticeships, and the Belle Fourche School District will house healthcare apprenticeships.
