Regents expand continuing ed options for state employees
December 18, 2023
State employees will have expanded educational opportunities after action from the state Board of Regents (BOR) this week.
In the past, state employees could receive reduced tuition rates at regental schools for on-campus classes. This week, the BOR approved expanding the reduced tuition for state employees to distance education courses. The Board was motivated to include this as an employee recruitment and retention incentive.
“In this changing labor market, it is critical that we continue to evaluate our total rewards package in order to remain competitive and differentiate Board of Regents institutions as employers of choice,” stated BOR documentation.
“This is wonderful news for all state employees looking to reach their professional goals, in ways that are affordable and flexible,” said Dr. Rebecca Hoey, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.
“Whether they are looking to start or finish a degree, begin a graduate program of study, or take courses that will refresh or renew their skill sets, this will offer state employees the flexibility to access a high-quality education across the state,” she said.
At Dakota State, employees will be able to take advantage of DSU’s affordable and technology-centric majors in the cyber sciences, information systems, business, education, and arts & sciences, which Dakota State offers on-campus, online, and in hybrid formats, she added.
