Biography
Dr. Kevin Smith is a faculty member in the College of Education & Human Performance, where he teaches courses in math education, STEM, and educational technology.
Before joining DSU, Dr. Smith held positions as a Learning Technologist for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the Council for Economic Education, and the University of Nebraska. He began his career as a high school math teacher in Columbus, Nebraska.
He holds a B.S. in Mathematics Education from Dakota State University, an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology from the University of Nebraska, and a doctorate in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Memphis.

Dr. Smith's research centers on the intersection of educational technology and the learner experience, particularly within K-12 mathematics. His current projects explore the use of gamification and effective technology integration to enhance learning and help students develop a positive attitude toward math. Additionally, he investigates teacher professional readiness and wellness, focusing on the efficacy of teacher simulations and factors contributing to teacher satisfaction and retention in the field.
