DSU launches new programs in artificial intelligence

MADISON, S.D. — Dakota State University continues expanding its leadership in technology-focused education with the launch of three new academic programs in artificial intelligence. Beginning in the upcoming academic terms, students will be able to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Artificial Intelligence, an Artificial Intelligence Graduate Certificate, and an Artificial Intelligence for National Security Intelligence Graduate Certificate. Together, the new offerings provide multiple pathways for students and professionals seeking advanced expertise in one of the nation's fastest-growing technology fields.

The Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence is a research-focused doctoral program designed for experienced technologists and working professionals seeking advanced expertise in machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, ethical AI, and distributed intelligent systems. Offered online and on campus, the 72-credit program provides flexibility for full-time and part-time students while emphasizing applied research and real-world problem-solving.
Built on DSU's nationally recognized strengths in cybersecurity, computer science, and applied research, the doctoral program prepares graduates for leadership careers in academia, government, industry, and national defense.

"Our new Ph.D. program is designed to prepare the next generation of AI researchers, innovators, and technology leaders by combining advanced technical expertise with applied research that addresses real-world challenges. This program builds on Dakota State's strengths in cybersecurity, computer science, and interdisciplinary research while helping meet the growing national demand for highly skilled AI professionals."
Complementing the doctoral program are two new graduate certificates designed to provide focused, career-oriented education in artificial intelligence.
The Artificial Intelligence Graduate Certificate equips graduate students and working professionals with practical skills in machine learning, neural networks, AI ethics, and emerging AI technologies. The fully online, 12-credit program allows students to strengthen their technical expertise without committing to a full master's degree and can serve as a pathway toward DSU's Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence.
The Artificial Intelligence for National Security Intelligence Graduate Certificate combines DSU's expertise in artificial intelligence and intelligence studies to prepare professionals to responsibly apply AI to intelligence analysis, decision support, and national security challenges. Students gain experience addressing the ethical, legal, and operational considerations of AI within their careers in intelligence, defense, cybersecurity, and government.
