DSU hosting virtual Teach Camp
May 29, 2020
Dakota State’s College of Education is hosting a free virtual teach camp for teachers on Monday, June 1 and Tuesday, June 2 for K-12 teachers. This is a continuation of work the faculty have done since the spring.Throughout April and May, professors and instructors held online Zoom classes to offer tips about virtual teaching and resources for parents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goal of the classes was “to help teachers during a challenging time and demonstrate our expertise in remote learning,” said Dr. Kevin Smith, assistant professor of mathematics education and coordinator of the Master of Science in Educational Technology program.
As educators continue to adjust to changes related to COVID-19, DSU modified their annual summer camps for educators to be offered online. DSU Camp Teach is combination of DSU STEAM Camp and the Trauma Sensitive Teaching Conference, according to Smith.
Ben Jones, South Dakota Secretary of Education, will begin the conference as a featured speaker.
Each day will offer nine different session options for attendees to choose from. Some of the topics include Sanford Inspire and Sanford Harmony programs, embracing English learners, childhood trauma and building resiliency in students, and Google Classroom.
Teachers who attend the entire conference and complete six additional Sanford Inspire modules will be eligible for one graduate credit for a $40 fee.
