Photography Club collaborates with Madison Regional Health Foundation on photo montage project
The staff of Madison Regional Health Systems (MRHS) received the 2021 Champions of Healthcare Award from Madison Regional Health Foundation (MRHF). To recognize this honor MRHF collaborated with Dakota State University’s Photo Club to take headshots of MRHS employees for a photomontage project.
Lee Kampshoff, President of the Photo Club, worked with three other photo club members to capture 150 MRHS employees.
“We had a session for each shift rotation (morning, afternoon, and night),” he shared.
Kampshoff, a Computer Graphics major from Salem, S.D., explained that after setting up a backdrop and lights, it only takes a few test shots to be ready to go.
“The most important part is talking with the person you’re photographing and making sure they’re comfortable,” he said. “That way you can get the most natural photo of them possible.”
The photo club volunteered their time and equipment to complete the project. MRHF shared that they will make a future donation to the photo club.
“We love working with the community on projects, so don’t be afraid to reach out to us at photoclub@dsu.edu,” Kampshoff said.
Beth Knuths, Executive Director of MRHF, was impressed with the effort the students made to get the lighting “just right” and how professional they were in the photoshoots.
“Their passion for what they have learned is so obvious and it is truly wonderful to see,” Knuths said.
Artist Angie Christiansen will use the headshots to create a photomontage. The artwork will be donated to MRHF by NorthWestern Energy, Christiansen’s employer.
The club is advised by Tom Jones, Professor of Computer Graphics and Photography.
