New exhibition in First Bank & Trust Gallery
April 11, 2022
An exhibition featuring work by Russ Nordman and Jody Boyer will be on display in the First Bank & Trust Gallery on the Dakota State University campus through Thursday, May 14.
“Russ and Jody’s art has a strong sense of place with motifs that relate to rural America,” said Alan Montgomery, Professor of Art. “There is beauty in what we often overlook or take for granted.”
Nordman and Boyer are visual art professors from the University of Nebraska Omaha. DSU film students recorded the installation of the work in the gallery.
For Boyer, the work on the display began in April of 2020. While sheltering in place with her family, she began exploring and creating ephemeral sculptural objects in her kitchen.
“The science of ice, food coloring, and my freezer became my artistic tools and my kitchen a photo studio,” Boyer’s artist statement reads.
Nordman’s work, titled The Combines, “examines machines, architecture, and technological devices and their complex metaphysical relationship with humans.”
“With this body of work, the machines are documented, taken apart, and then reconfigured,” he said in his artist’s statement.
There will be a reception on Wednesday, April 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the gallery, located in Room 202 in the Karl Mundt Library.
