DSU and Concordia blend strengths through a new partnership

Dakota State University and Concordia College (Minn.) are unique institutions of higher learning, but by blending their strengths, they will be able to provide new opportunities for their students’ successful careers.
DSU is a STEM-focused public university whose operational mission is to prepare cyber-savvy graduates to live a life of positive consequence; Concordia is a liberal arts college whose goal is to influence world affairs by sending thoughtful and informed men and women into society.
A new memorandum of understanding will bridge these two missions, allowing students to participate in a collaboration and exchange program in critical languages, cybersecurity, or technology. The agreement was approved at the South Dakota Board of Regents meeting in May.
We have distinct histories and missions, but our primary goal is the same – to see our graduates become creative problem solvers and innovative leaders,” said José-Marie Griffiths, President of Dakota State.
“Through this new partnership, students will be better equipped to accomplish their goals by becoming more competent in communication skills or technology. This collaboration is ideal because it builds on our complementary expertise and capabilities to strengthen our missions and our global society.”
Concordia is home to a recognized language training center for the U.S. Department of Defense, offering education in the critical languages of Russian, Arabic, Korean, and Chinese, and will offer DSU students a variety of learning experiences in language development.
Dakota State brings experience with cyber-intensive and cyber-infused programs, along with three Center of Academic Excellence designations from the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security. This relationship will create opportunities for Concordia students to take courses at DSU, or participate in training opportunities to earn badges, certificates, or graduate degrees in cybersecurity, network security, artificial intelligence, cyber leadership and intelligence, and other technology-specific disciplines.
"As our world becomes increasingly interconnected and technology-driven, there’s a need for professionals with diverse capabilities. This partnership helps meet that need,” said Colin Irvine, President of Concordia College.
“Both our institutions are focused on creating opportunities for students from our region, and we are thrilled about this collaboration,” Irvine said. “Not only will it equip graduates with skills to thrive in their careers, but it will also contribute to the security and prosperity of our nation.”
