Bennett named BIS dean at DSU
April 25, 2017
Dr. Dorine Bennett has been named the new dean of the College of Business and Information Systems (BIS) at Dakota State University.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to work with all of the programs in the College of BIS, including business and information systems, as well as health information,” said Bennett.
She came to DSU in 1987 after working in the private health information management field. On campus, she most recently was Director of the Health Information Management (HIM) Programs and the Coordinator of the Health Informatics Program. She was named interim dean of BIS in June of 2016, after the retirement of former dean Dr. Richard Puetz.
Bennett was selected after a national search, said DSU President José-Marie Griffiths, citing Bennett’s experience, education, communication skills and leadership ability. She has degrees in health information, business and also in education.
“Dr. Bennett is a strong, forward-looking leader who will give us direction for both the business programs as well as the information systems programs,” said Griffiths. In addition, her communication skills and knowledge of DSU and the South Dakota system “will be an advantage to the institution for years to come,” she added.
Bennett is looking forward to her new duties, which began April 24. “I’m impressed with the enthusiasm and expertise of the faculty, and I have high expectations for the future of the College.”
The university will advertise to fill the HIM leadership position. Bennett will continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
