Braskamp appointed physical plant director at Dakota State
May 20, 2016
Corey Braskamp has been named director of physical plant at Dakota State University in Madison. He has been the department’s interim director twice during his tenure at DSU, including the past three months.
The announcement was made to faculty and staff this morning by Stacy Krusemark, vice president for business and administrative services. The appointment is effective immediately, pending approval by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
Braskamp joined the DSU staff in 2007 as a maintenance electrician and was promoted to physical plant manager in 2008 and to assistant director last year. In those roles, he has provided leadership to the maintenance and grounds staff and has been among the professionals working on capital projects, renovations, campus infrastructure and mechanical systems controls.
Krusemark, in his announcement to faculty and staff, cited Braskamp’s breadth of knowledge, his experience as interim director and his fitting leadership style as factors in the decision.
“Corey has filled in as the interim director twice in the last year and has demonstrated his ability to lead this department,” Krusemark said. “His knowledge of construction and related areas has helped considerably as university leaders have embarked on three major facility projects. Corey has also been a humble leader willing to look at ways we can continue to improve at all levels in the department.”
As director, Braskamp will have responsibilities for 30 full-time staff and maintenance of 21 buildings and the 22-acre campus.
Braskamp earned his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in biology and microbiology at South Dakota State University. He has additional certifications as an electrical contractor, and underground storage tank operator and an Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) supervisor. He is member of APPA, the Central Association of Physical Plant Administrators (CAPPA) and the South Dakota Electrical Commission.
Braskamp and his wife, Brooke, live near Wentworth with their four children.
