DSU grad student wins service award

Dennis Acuna, a Dakota State University graduate student in information systems, has received the 2016 Doctoral Student Service Award from the Association for Information Systems (AIS). AIS is the premier professional association for individuals and organizations who lead the research, teaching, practice, and study of information systems worldwide.

The Student Service Award was established in 2014, and honors were first granted in 2015, to recognize “doctoral students who have provided service within the Association,” says the AIS website. Acuna volunteered to help organize two recent academic conferences at Pittsburg State University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Acuna is a DSU online student, living and working in Ohio. His previous degrees were from the University of Toledo, and Bowling Green State University, but he chose DSU for his Doctor of Science in Information Systems degree after learning about the DSU program from the school’s website.

“I firmly believe that in many ways this award also serves to recognize Dakota State University, which has provided me the opportunity to grow as a human being through the doctoral program. Without the DSU doctoral program I would not be on this journey, and I wouldn't have had the unique opportunity to learn so many new things and meet so many interesting people.”

In addition to Acuna, two students from Baylor University were selected as award winners for 2016.
