Student takes 2nd place in photography exhibit

Recently, Dakota State University junior, Chelsea Meyer, a Digital Arts and Design major from Sioux Falls, S.D., was encouraged by her Photography Club advisor to submit her artwork into the Brookings Arts Council’s 34th Annual Open Photography Exhibition, in Brookings, S.D.
After contemplating for a time, Meyer decided to take a chance. She prepared her photograph according to the Brookings Arts Council specifications, paid the $15 entry fee and submitted her black and white photograph, “Silent Night.” What happened next was something she was not expecting.
Meyer visited the Brookings Arts Council at the end of January to pick up her photo entry. That is when she discovered her photo was awarded second place in the Exhibition. Along with the second place standing, she was presented a $50 prize.
For Meyer, photography is something she enjoys doing as a hobby. “I enjoy taking photos. So, to see that other people enjoy my photos as much as I do is pretty awesome!”
Meyer is grateful for the DSU Photography Club. “I have always loved photography, but if it wasn’t for the club, I probably never would have started taking photos again. I really appreciate having a club like this on campus.”
In the future, Meyer plans on submitting more of her photos into juried photo exhibits. She also encourages others to do the same.
