U.S. Sen. John Thune will be in Madison on Tuesday, April 11 for an open forum on digital networks. The title for the forum is “The Road to 5G.”
Dakota State University President Dr. José-Marie Griffiths said while 5G is currently in early stages of development, 5G digital networks will be coming quickly. The “need for significantly increased capacity and speed, driven by the emerging Internet of Things” is causing technology leaders to predict 5G implementation by 2020.
“Dakota State, Madison and South Dakota are uniquely positioned as a potential national information transportation leader by being the first state in the country to develop and deploy a secure 5G Network,” Griffiths said.
“I can’t think of a better place to discuss the Senate’s effort to help usher in the 5G era than at DSU, a university that has been at the forefront in integrating technology advancements in its classrooms,” said Thune.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to discuss my MOBILE NOW bill, legislation that would make an enormous leap toward a revolution in our wireless capability in America,” Thune added.
Thune is the chairman and the senior Republican on the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. He also serves as the chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, the number three position in Senate Republican leadership.
The forum, which is open to the public, will be held from 2:15 – 3 p.m. in the Tunheim Classroom Building Auditorium on the Dakota State University campus in Madison.
