DSU’s CLASSICS Institute director begins dialogue on cyber-ethics

Dr. Joseph Bottum, the director of Dakota State University’s CLASSICS Institute is beginning dialogue with media outlets across the world on the topic of liberty in a cyber-enabled society.
DSU’s CLASSICS Institute is a new think-tank at the Madison, S.D. university. It is part of the Madison Cyber Labs, a group of 11 cyber research and development divisions being developed at DSU. CLASSICS stands for “Collaborations for Liberty and Security Strategies for Integrity in a Cyber-enabled Society.”
Bottum recently wrote a piece for the national opinion magazine “The Weekly Standard” which discussed the Internet social contagion and the toppling of statues. After this article was published, Bottum was invited as a guest on an Australian radio podcast. On October 5, he will be featured on SDPB’s “In the Moment” with Lori Walsh.
Bottum is a nationally known public intellectual and author. In his role as director of the CLASSICS Institute, he will study and discuss technology’s impact on liberty and other ethical issues created by the computer revolution, what the institute is referring to as cyber-ethics.
