Pam Rowland Keeps the Force Going Strong for Girls

The Sioux Falls chapter of Women in Science held their annual Girls in Science event at Southeast Tech on March 8th. Pam Rowland, Instructor for College of Computing in Computer Science at Dakota State University, was an invited presenter and talked about computer science and coding to 125 girls from 8 different schools, and Leah Bangston, a student at DSU, helped Pam lead the sessions.

Rowland taught the girls how to code robots and about different academic programs at DSU.

 “We had a great day showing the girls how fun coding can be,” stated Rowland. “The girls were enthusiastic and inspiring.”

The annual WIS conference aims to expose girls to careers in STEM, and over 800 girls participated in the program this year. Presenters included women who are physicians, civil engineers, pharmacists, optometrists, research analysts, educators, among others.
