Regents Honor Student Groups from Dakota State

The South Dakota Board of Regents has recognized three student organizations from Dakota State University for their outstanding academic, community, and organizational work.

DSU student groups receiving the special awards were:

Award for Academic Excellence – Phi Beta Lambda Business Club has as its mission the goal to bring the business community and education together through innovative leadership and career development programs. Members have the opportunity to build advanced business skills, develop a professional resume, and network with local business leaders. Club members also participate in many community and campus activities, such as Relay for Life, as well as host fundraisers and complete community service projects.

Community Service Award – DSU Gaming Club offers a place for students, faculty, and non-student gamers to gather to teach or play traditional and digital games. Last November, the club hosted its 12th annual gaming convention, where a charity raffle raised more than $400 to support the Children’s Miracle Network. The club also hosted a 24-hour pledge-based gaming and marathon donation drive, raising more than $3,500 for a local hospital affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network.

Award for Organizational Leadership – The Richardson Hall Council promotes the welfare and interests of residents living within the Richardson residence hall on the Dakota State campus. The council recently hosted a card and gaming tournament and a Halloween in the Hall event, where treats and games were made available to children from the community. The group also sponsored an annual food drive competition with Emry Hall, called the “food duel,” with all donations going to the Community Center’s food drive. The council’s goal is to provide a fun and engaging environment for students living in Richardson Hall.
