Qiskit Fall Fest

Join IBM Quantum and Dakota State University for Qiskit Fall Fest 2026 where we will explore the emergence of quantum computing at DSU and beyond. This will be an in-depth and fun day covering the fundamentals of quantum computing, hands-on quantum programming with Qiskit, and an interactive game demonstrating quantum technology in cybersecurity.
The event will take place at DSU on November 18 in the Beacom Collaboration Space (BIT 106) with the keynote speaker from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and workshop sessions from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Come enjoy some free snacks and pizza while learning about quantum computing.
This is a beginner friendly event that is open to the public. Anyone and everyone is welcome.

Agenda
Time: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.
This is an overall introduction to quantum computing in a lecture format, hosted by IBM Quantum speaker Dikran Meliksetian, Ph.D. He is Adjunct Faculty of Computer Science at the University of New Haven and a former Software Architect and Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM. He is a quantum expert, teaches several quantum computing courses at the University of New Haven, and works part time at the Quantum and Nanotechnology Center at Southern Connecticut State University, mentoring students in quantum computing.
Topics may include: Qubits, superposition, and entanglement; how quantum computers work; common applications and current limitations
Time: 5:30 – 8 p.m. (back-to-back with second workshop)
This is an easy and fun hands-on workshop where you will actually program quantum concepts with Qiskit. Participants will learn how to do things like create a basic quantum circuit, implement quantum gates, and measure qubits.
Bring a laptop! Volunteer assistance will be available throughout the workshop.
Time: 5:30 – 8 p.m. (after first workshop is complete)
Finish the day with an interactive Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) board game. This easy-to-understand, hands-on activity demonstrates how quantum concepts can be used in real-world applications. Work together and compete to win prizes!
No programming experience required. Volunteer assistance will also be available.
This event is part of a global series from IBM Quantum designed to inform students and the public about ongoing quantum computing accomplishments, capabilities, and learning opportunities.
Participants who register and attend all three sessions in person will receive a Quantum Day at DSU participation certificate.
