Biography

Dr. Youssef Harrath is a tenured Associate Professor of Computer Science at Dakota State University’s Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences. His teaching spans algorithms, C/C++/Java/Assembly programming, data structures, optimization, graph theory, discrete mathematics, and statistics at undergraduate and graduate levels. He has authored 57 peer-reviewed papers, secured nine research grants, and supervised 12 postgraduate students. His research centers on algorithm design for combinatorial optimization, scheduling, TSP, bin packing, and routing, with recent work applying AI to cybersecurity.

He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Franche-Comté, France (2003), an M.Sc. in Operations Research & Optimization from INP Grenoble, France (2000), and a B.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Science, Tunisia (1998). Before joining DSU in 2023, he held appointments at the University of Bahrain (2010–2023), the University of Hail, Saudi Arabia (2005–2010), INSA Rouen, France (2003–2004), and the High Institute of Applied Computer Sciences of Lorraine, France (2004–2005).

Dr. Harrath is a Senior Member of IEEE (since 2019) and served as Secretary of the IEEE Bahrain Computer Society Executive Committee (2018–2020). Outside academia, he enjoys fishing, soccer, and travel, having visited 18 countries across four continents and 13 U.S. states.
