Biography

Dr. Abid Mehmood is an Associate Professor at The Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University. With over 20 years of experience in academia and industry, his research focuses on applying machine learning and computer vision to domains like precision agriculture, surveillance, and healthcare.


He has published extensively, holds U.S. patents, and has secured funding for interdisciplinary research projects. Before joining DSU, Dr. Mehmood taught graduate and undergraduate courses at multiple institutions and contributed significantly to curriculum development and accreditation initiatives.


In addition to his academic career, Dr. Mehmood spent over a decade in the software industry, where he led the development of multimedia asset management and program scheduling systems for broadcast operations. He also worked on workflow automation solutions for large defense organizations and developed specialized web-crawling applications designed for secure data retrieval and analysis. At DSU, he continues to advance innovative research and inspire the next generation of AI practitioners.
