Judy Dittman DSU’s Homecoming 2020 Parade Marshal

October 1, 2020

After four decades working at Dakota State Judy Dittman is parade marshal for DSU’s Homecoming 2020 theme “Soaring Through the Decades.”

Dittman, who retired in June of this year, served in a variety of positions during her time at DSU. Some of the jobs she held include Athletic Director, Interim Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost, Associate Provost, Dean of the College of Education, and Title III Director.

During her time as Athletic Director she eliminated a large deficit in the athletic budget, increased sports scholarships, started an annual golf fundraising tournament, and started the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

Dittman was inducted into the DSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006 for her accomplishments as athletic director and in coaching. She coached women’s basketball leading them to nine SDIC Championships. Her overall coaching record is 185-119 and in SDIC 109-22. She coached her teams through a 35-game winning streak from February 5, 1981 to Jan. 21, 1984.

As women’s basketball coach she was named SDIC Coach of the Year (1984-1987 and 1990). Additionally, she was named South Dakota Women’s College Coach of the Year by the South Dakota Sports Writers Association in 1984.

“Judy Dittman’s willingness to jump into any position as needed and many accomplishments in her 41 years at Dakota State made her the perfect choice for parade marshal this year,” said James Jacobsen, Vice President of Student Affairs. “We are excited to recognize the impact she has made at DSU.”

Dittman will bring her Trojan spirit on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. to the Trojan Homecoming Parade.
