Dakota State University students walking around campus

Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

Dakota State to be ‘mask optional’ beginning May 10

May 5, 2021

The South Dakota Board of Regents today announced plans to change to a “mask optional” in indoor and outdoor environments on Monday, May 10.

At the recommendation of university presidents, a system-level protocol that required face coverings in all public indoor spaces on campus since last fall will end. Dakota State will join in the effort, as the state system moves to return to normal campus operations this fall.

“Our system has continuously responded to changing circumstances caused by the pandemic. With vaccines now widely available, our institutions are eager to adjust as we look forward to the fall semester,” said Brian L. Maher, the regents’ executive director and CEO of the board.

José-Marie Griffiths, president of Dakota State University, praised students and employees for their efforts throughout the academic year.

“Because of the patience and flexibility of our students, faculty, and staff, we have successfully completed this academic year, and we look forward to the promise of a more traditional campus experience in the fall,” Griffiths said.

DSU and the other regental schools will also discontinue the dashboard information on their websites, but will continue to follow CDC recommendations for social distancing and meeting room capacities, along with proper hygiene techniques. Administration will continue to monitor conditions on campus and make necessary adjustments.
