Vennard leads marketing at Silencer Central

August 12, 2022

Silencer Central is a rapidly growing business in Sioux Falls, and DSU alumna Terra Vennard is leading its marketing department.

Vennard graduated from Dakota State in 2009, earning a degree in Digital Art and Design. “I loved the idea of being at the cutting edge of technology in the great state of South Dakota,” she said.

Classes at DSU enabled Vennard to develop a variety of skills, including critical problem-solving.

“I still remember the visual basic programming class I needed to take and how it helped me grow my research, discovery, and problem-solving skills in a way I still utilize today,” she said.

Outside of the classroom, she became involved with the Student Activities Board and Advertising Club, which helped her cultivate leadership skills that she still benefits from today.

After graduating from college, Vennard started working in design-heavy roles. As her experience grew and skill set expanded, she shifted away from design into leadership and marketing operation roles, she shared.

Today she works as the Director of Marketing at Silencer Central. The company sells firearm sound suppressors (silencers).

“It’s a wild ride, in the best way possible,” she said. “Just a year ago, you could count the number of employees this company had on your hands and feet, and now we are pushing over 100 and are a major player in the firearms space.”

As the business continues to grow, doubling nearly every year, she hopes to continue that growth.

“My goal with this role is to help lead marketing initiatives to continue our market growth as well as the growth of the team through this incredible expansion.”

Her advice for young professionals is to get involved. “Your experience at college shouldn’t be where your education starts and stops,” she said. “Some of my best and most memorable experiences were outside of the classroom.”
