AT&T, Human-I-T, DSU Provide 150 Laptops and Backpacks to Youths

August 14, 2025

As students gear up to head back to school this August, AT&T*, Human-I-T, and Dakota State University are providing 150 refurbished laptops and backpacks filled with school supplies to youth served by Boys & Girls Club of Moody County. The laptops and backpacks, funded by an AT&T contribution, were given to Club members in need during a special event today at Dakota State University in Madison.

“For many of the students we serve, purchasing a laptop or backpack for school is just not in their budget,” said Keilani Klimczuk, Unit Director-Moody County, Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains. “But thanks to AT&T and Human-I-T, all of the youth attending our Club will now have a computer and backpack filled with school supplies to start the new school year off right. All children deserve access to tools that will help them thrive in the classroom, and these laptops will help open doors and unlock a world of learning for our youth.”

AT&T also announced a $20,000 contribution to the Dakota State University Foundation in support of the university’s CybHER® program. The program works with Boys & Girls Clubs across South Dakota, including the Moody County Club, to bring technology outreach and digital literacy training to students with limited or no access to technology.

“This generous gift from AT&T will enhance our work with Boys & Girls Clubs across South Dakota to deliver technology and digital literacy training on-site for students in need,” said Dr. José-Marie Griffiths, President, Dakota State University. “We are so grateful for AT&T’s continued support of the CybHER program to not only ignite a passion for cybersecurity but also provide students with the digital literacy training they need for future careers in STEM.”

“AT&T has been a steadfast champion of Dakota State University and the work done through CybHER,” said Dr. Ashley Podhradsky, Vice President, Research & Economic Development, Dakota State University, and co-founder of CybHER. “AT&T’s continued support of this initiative allows us to further our efforts to enhance digital literacy for the next generation.”

According to U.S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide still don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world, an issue known as the digital divide.

This effort is part of AT&T’s initiativeto help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.

“AT&T is proud to collaborate with organizations like Human-I-T and the Dakota State University Foundation to help close the digital divide for Boys & Girls Club students in Moody County and across South Dakota,” said Cheryl Riley, President, AT&T Northern Plains States. “Access to connectivity and digital literacy training are both vital to bridging the digital divide for students, and we’re glad we can provide these resources to those who need them most.”
