DSU to plant tree in honor of student on Arbor Day

April 28, 2016

Dakota State University will hold its first Arbor Day commemoration on Friday, April 29 at 3:00 p.m., on the south lawn near the campus rose garden. The tree will be planted in memory of Julian Freitag, who passed away in 2014 resulting from injuries sustained in a car accident. Freitag was a graduate of Madison High School and was an exercise science major at Dakota State. Dr. Dale Droge, DSU professor of biology, and Ginny Freitag, art teacher at Madison Middle School, are donating the tree in honor of their son.

A Julian Freitag Endowed Scholarship was established by friends and family of Freitag through the Madison Educational Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to Madison High School senior who will attend Dakota State University. For more information on the scholarship, please see
