Three DSU faculty selected for SD Governor’s Biennial Art Exhibition

January 21, 2019

Angela Behrends, Tom Jones, and Tim Orme each have artwork included in the South Dakota Governor’s 8th Biennial Art Exhibition.

There were 298 entries from 112 artists submitted for the show and 70 works from 64 artists selected for the show, according to Jodi Lundgren, Curator of Exhibitions at the South Dakota Art Museum.

The South Dakota Governor’s 8th Biennial Art Exhibition will travel to four venues around South Dakota from January 25, 2019 through January 19, 2020: South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City, John A. Day Gallery in Vermillion, and Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

Thomas Jones submitted a photographic timeline of the decomposition of a dead bird (below, left). Jones is honored to have been selected for a second time for this exhibition.

Tim Orme’s project is a film inspired be fractals, specifically squares Fractals are complex, never-ending patterns created by repeating a mathematical equation which explore space, texture and depth.  Orme collaborated with electronic musician Carlos Cotallo Solares. Orme is excited to be selected for the first time for this exhibition.

Angela Behrends was an invited artist for the exhibition. After being selected in years past, as an invited artist Behrends artwork was automatically accepted for the exhibition. Her artwork will feature a buffalo head made of steel wire with bison horn caps (below, right).
