Promotion and Tenure Committee Charter
I. COMMITTEE MISSION
As specified by SDBOR Rank and Promotion Policy 4.4.6, the University’s Promotion and Tenure Committee is charged with the review of all materials assembled by eligible faculty seeking tenure and/or a promotion in rank in order to make a recommendation to the President regarding whether the faculty member sufficiently met the SDBOR and University standards required of tenure and/or the desired rank. The recommendation of the Committee will be considered as a factor in the President’s decision of whether to request tenure and/or a change of rank to the South Dakota Board of Regents.
II. COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP AND APPOINTMENTS
As specified by SDBOR Rank and Promotion Policy 4.4.6, the Promotion and Tenure Committee will consist of elected eligible members of the faculty, and members of the administration. Eligible faculty members must be tenured and must not be considered for tenure or promotion during the academic year in which their promotion or tenure is being considered. The composition of the committee shall be: fifty percent (50%) faculty members and fifty percent (50%) administrative appointees. At the time of this charter, the Dakota State University President determined membership as follows:

Four (4) faculty members, elected by General Faculty

Four (4) administrative appointees, appointed by the President. The President may designate this duty to the Provost.
III. COMMITTEE TENURE
SDBOR Policy 4:11 requires membership terms be three (3) years. See SDBOR Rank and Promotion Policy 4.4.6 on the mandated process for filling vacancies.
