Dakota State University students walking around campus

Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

Suzy Collignon-Hodgen & Max Hodgen named parade marshals

September 14, 2023

Dakota State alumni Max Hodgen (B.S. ’97 & ’99, M.S. ’09) and Suzy Collignon-Hodgen (B.S. ’98) are the 2023 Trojan Days Parade Marshals. The couple’s origins began at DSU.

“We met in college and fell in love at Jersey’s Bar, where we hung out every Sunday evening,” Max said.

Suzy and Max remember their time at DSU fondly, describing their professors as caring and invested in their growth. They also cherish the lifelong friendships they formed while attending school.

Their experiences at Dakota State inspired them to stay connected and involved with the university long after graduation.

Suzy, who is executive director of System Information Technology Business at Sanford Health, has strengthened DSU’s relationship with Sanford Health, shared Sami Zoss, Executive Director for Constituent Services and Engagement. Additionally, as outgoing chair for the Foundation Board of Trustees, Suzy has dedicated over a decade of service to Dakota State.

“It’s been great seeing the University and Foundation change and grow,” Suzy said.

While recently retired from his position as Madison High School’s Head Football Coach, Max has been influential with high school athletes, encouraging them to consider attending Dakota State, Zoss said. His efforts over the years have helped foster strong relationships between the local high school and university communities.

Max finds it deeply rewarding to watch former students and athletes attend DSU and participate in athletics.

The couple’s favorite part of homecoming is catching up with former classmates and family while tailgating and cheering on the Trojans.

“Max and Suzy’s tireless support of DSU speaks volumes about their collective passion for our beloved institution,” Zoss said.
