How to Apply for an International Graduate Degree
Application Process
Complete the admission steps to apply as an international graduate student (be sure to identify any additional requirements that may be necessary for the program you are seeking):
- Complete the online graduate application.
- Pay your $36 application fee.
- Submit necessary documentation. Refer to the Timelines and Requirements page of your desired program for the required documents such as official transcripts and recommendations.
- Verify that you are financially self-sustaining. Complete and upload the Certificate of Financial Responsibility form (PDF) and bank statements in your application portal.
- Once you have demonstrated your financial responsibility, we’ll send you a Form I-20. You’ll need this form to apply for an F-1 Student Visa

Program Exceptions
The following programs do not meet F-1 student visa regulations because they are offered exclusively online with DSU.
- Master of Science in Educational Technology
- Master of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management
- Doctorate of Philosophy in Cyber Operations
- Doctorate of Philosophy in Cyber Defense
- Master of Business Administration Program
Application Eligibility Restrictions for Online Students
The United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) administers several sanctions programs. Dakota State University cannot accept applications, enroll students, or provide educational services to individuals who are citizens of, or who reside in, countries subject to sanctions administered by OFAC. This restriction will remain in effect until such sanctions are lifted or specific authorization is obtained. These restrictions do not apply to on-campus students.
