May 4, 2026
The Dakota State University Foundation hosted its annual DSUnite event on May 1, 2026 at the Canopy by Hilton and raised a record-setting $610,580 for student scholarships.
More than 250 supporters and friends came together at the event, presented by First PREMIER Bank and PREMIER Bankcard. The evening featured silent and live auctions, a raffle with four exclusive vacation packages, and impactful stories from DSU students, alumni and supporters. The program included video features from Cierra Watkins and Collette Stewart, Braxton Lacher ’24 and Niyongabo Yohana, and Paige Phinney and Miles Beacom ‘81. President José-Marie Griffiths and Dr. John Ballard, DSU’s future president, shared comments from the stage alongside emcee Jeremy Brech ’04.
“Thank you to everyone who gave so generously at DSUnite,” said Jill Ruhd ’07, senior director of philanthropy. “The support from our Trojan community means so much to Dakota State and to our students. Your generosity will have a lasting impact and will continue to support our students for years to come. We can’t thank you enough.”
Fundraising momentum was strong both leading up to and during the event, culminating in a record-breaking total. The evening was fueled by generous lead gifts announced during the program, including two contributions of $100,000, one $75,000 gift, and two additional commitments of $50,000. The remaining funds were raised through the various auction, raffle, and event programming. Each gift serves to strengthen DSU’s mission while ensuring future generations of Trojans can pursue their dreams.
“DSUnite is a gathering of community to collectively make a difference during an evening full of energy, camaraderie, and Trojan pride,” said Griffiths. “The generosity shown reflects a shared belief in the power of education, innovation, and opportunity. I am inspired and honored to lead a university backed by such dedicated advocates.”
Details on DSUnite 2027 will be announced at a later date.
