Mission Statement

The Academic Hall of Fame recognizes the richness and depth of scholarship, research, and creative work at Dakota State University. Its mission is to make accessible to the campus community and beyond the exemplary work that is the cornerstone of DSU’s identity. It celebrates the exploration and academic achievement that is emerging from the classrooms, laboratories, and imaginations of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The Hall of Fame acts as a lasting representation of this work that aligns with DSU’s values of university-wide excellence and technology and innovation inside and outside the classroom and offers a space that fosters collegiality.

Vision
In the spring of 2018, funding was approved for the annual subscription of software to create and maintain an Institutional Repository. This repository was named “Beadle Scholar,” to honor the institution’s history as the General Beadle State College and former President, William Henry Harrison Beadle. The Library Archivist serves as the project manager for Beadle Scholar, establishing a new institutional repository that reflects best practices for "collecting, preserving, and disseminating the intellectual" work of DSU faculty, students, staff, and alumni.

Proposed use of Beadle Scholar is to embed it in the future “Academic Hall of Fame,” which will reside in the Karl E. Mundt Library. This area will be a physical representation of the exceptional scholarly work that has been produced at DSU. It will be an attractive area with spaces for physical objects-published books, representative art, and depictions of scholarly output, as well as space for easy access to the content of Beadle Scholar, perhaps in a slide show format, or other interactive media representation.

The Hall of Fame venue invites individual members to participate in showcasing their scholarly and creative work in a centralized space, that provides prominence and serves as a nexus of innovation, research and creativity at DSU.
