Curriculum and experience highlights
Student teaching residency
Put your learning into action during a semester-long student teaching residency. In your final semester, you’ll be placed in a partner school district where you’ll gain real classroom experience through co-teaching, lesson planning, classroom management, and professional collaboration. This immersive experience helps you refine your teaching style, build confidence, and prepare you for South Dakota teaching licensure and certification.

At DSU, technology is intentionally integrated into every teacher preparation program. As a Business Education major, you’ll earn a built-in K–12 Educational Technology Endorsement, equipping you with the skills and credentials to effectively incorporate computer applications and digital tools into your business courses. Notable business education courses
Explore the fundamentals of starting and growing a business. This course introduces opportunity identification, business planning, innovation, and entrepreneurial management practices. You’ll also examine the legal, ethical, and social responsibilities involved in launching and leading new ventures.
Develop a strong foundation in financial and managerial accounting. You’ll learn how to record and analyze financial transactions, prepare financial statements, and use accounting information to support sound business decisions. The second course builds on these concepts with a focus on partnerships, corporations, cost control, and management decision-making.
Gain insight into how businesses connect with customers. This course covers consumer behavior, market research, product development, pricing strategies, promotion, distribution, and marketing management — providing a practical understanding of how successful marketing strategies are developed and evaluated.
Learn how to effectively integrate technology into classroom instruction. This course explores digital tools, instructional software, and emerging technologies that enhance teaching and learning across content areas.
Complete a supervised teaching residency in a middle or high school classroom. You’ll observe, co-teach, and lead instruction while applying classroom management strategies and instructional methods in a real-world setting.
