CLEP Guidelines are determined at the SD BOR level. Changes may be introduced throughout the year.

Cost / Payment Method

Test takers are responsible for two separate CLEP fees – a CLEP exam fee to the College Board/CLEP (paid when registering) and a test administration fee when the test is taken.

CLEP exams cost $113 total if testing at DSU ($95 to the College Board and $20 to DSU). Students who test at another test site than DSU or remotely may be responsible for a test administration fee greater than $20.

The College Board requires you to pay and print a registration ticket from their website prior to testing.

  1. Open the CLEP website
  2. Click My Account from the top-right corner.
  3. Click the Create an Account button.
  4. Complete the form and click Next.
  5. Once you’ve created the account and paid for the exam, print the registration ticket.

Testing Day

Please bring the $20 administration fee, the registration ticket, and one form of government issued ID to your CLEP exam appointment. Each CLEP exam takes approximately 90-minutes to complete; the College Composition exam takes approximately 120 minutes.

Scores

Your results will be available immediately after testing with the exception of the College Composition (with essay) exam. Please allow 3-4 weeks for the scoring of this exam.

Questions / Schedule a CLEP Exam

Please contact us at 605-256-5203 or testing@dsu.edu if you have any questions or to schedule an appointment to take the CLEP exam.
