Student Health
Wellness is about the whole you: happy, healthy, and able to make the most of your DSU experience. You'll have access to a dedicated Student Health Office, nearby urgent/after-hours and emergency care, and an on-campus fitness center.
DSU student health office
Students with a valid student ID have access to unlimited visits with the student health nurse for minor illnesses and injuries, as well as health education and wellness resources.
Monday – Friday: 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
→ Trojan Center, 820 Washington Ave N, Madison, SD 57042
Physician referrals
If additional diagnostic evaluation or treatment is required, the nurse will refer students to a physician. Students are eligible for up to two physician visits per academic year at no additional cost.
Laboratory tests and X-rays are not included as part of covered visits and may result in additional charges.
Madison Community Center
As a DSU student, you’ll have access to the Madison Community Center, which is located on our campus.

Hospital and physician visits count toward the two free physician visits available each academic year. During the fall and spring semesters, one emergency room visit per academic year may be covered if deemed an emergency by the University or attending physician. Students are responsible for charges exceeding covered benefits, and any additional insurance coverage will be applied before student health benefits.

More resources
Each building on Dakota State University's campus has at least one AED for emergency situations. For locations of AEDs on campus visit the accompanying map.
AED Location MapWe do strongly encourage you to carry health insurance. The student health fee we charge every DSU student is not a substitute for insurance.
If you're an international student, you must have health insurance that meets state and federal criteria.
If you’re an incoming freshman, transfer student, or a returning former student born in 1957 or later, you must be vaccinated prior to enrolling at DSU.
This means that you’ll need to show proof of two doses of the MMR vaccine or a rubeola and rubella titer. The South Dakota Board of Regents also strongly encourages you to get a meningitis vaccination.
