Preparation + opportunity = success

That's the DSU equation. We're a four-year university with nationally recognized programs, cutting-edge facilities, and the brightest thinkers. But we're also a tight-knit, inclusive community. Small class sizes mean hands-on training and individualized attention. All this with an affordable, public school price that's among the best values in the region.

Academic Support and Advising

At Dakota State, we want to see you succeed. Staff and student employees are here to help you – whether it’s through individual tutoring appointments or Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions.

If you are interested in a student leader position in SI, tutoring, or the Writing Center, please log into Handshake to review the job description and complete the necessary materials.

Academic peer advising

At DSU, all undergraduate students are assigned to an academic advisor. You'll work with them to plan your course schedules and to create professional and personal goals.

Advisors are just a few of the wonderful people you'll meet throughout your college career. They are your built-in support system and will do everything they can to help you succeed. To find out who your academic advisor is, log into your self-service registration portal and go to your student profile. Don't forget to save their contact information, as you'll be meeting with them regularly throughout the year.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program where an SI Leader (a student who has previously taken the course) attends class with their peers and then hosts two to three SI sessions outside of class, to support peers in the course content.

Sessions are held in the SI Interactive Conference Room in the Learning Engagement Center (LEC).
